“Help! We don’t know what our business should be called, we need a logo and we don’t know what our space should look like.”

We helped a new business enter the market with a bold statement, resulting in a thriving local hair styling destination.

The first steps

We held a discovery session with the client to establish key words and ideas for a business name, which was narrowed down to two ideas:

  1. Unique
  2. Kiru – Japanese for Cut

The outcome is a hybrid of the two words.

The approach

Our interior design strategy for Unik Hair was to take the hair salon experience back to basics with an architectural intervention based on the three main functions of the space:

  1. Waiting
  2. Cutting
  3. Washing

The architectural intervention is in the form of a single continuous piece of joinery that was inserted in to the space.

The piece begins as a seat (for waiting), then raises up to form a bench (for cutting), then raises up once more to create a wall which forms a semi-private space (for washing).
